Your Induction

All staff at Thistle Care Ltd. complete induction training. It is set over 3 months and it will provide you with plenty of information to learn new skill sets. Care is an ever changing industry and care staff must be trained regularly to accommodate these changes. It does not matter if you have had care experience or not you can be reassured that you will receive plenty of support and mentored into your role by very experienced senior staff.

3 Month Induction Overview

Your Journey with Thistle Care Ltd. will start with an initial 5 day induction, its partly classroom based and home learning. The training is interesting, and you will also develop lots of practical skills which will enhance your skills as a care worker.  

Day 1: Welcome to the Company, Policies and Procedures, Medication Handling and Safeguarding.

Day 2 & 3: E-learning Modules completed at home ( there are 9 modules in all to complete)

Day 4: All Wales Manual Handling Passport

Day 5: All Wales Manual Handling Passport, Final Administration, Work Items Issue.

After your initial induction, provided Thistle Care Ltd. has received all statutory checks and references, your shadow shifts will then be arranged. You will shadow a senior member of staff for a number of shifts so you can gain experience and knowledge about your new role.

After being in your role for 1 month you will have a probationary meeting with our senior staff and you will be issued further e-learning modules to deepen your understanding of your new role. This is also the same for month 2.

 

Your probation meeting in month 3 is where you will be signed off your probation and deemed competent as a care worker. As all domiciliary care workers need to be registered with Social Care Wales within 6 months of starting, Thistle Care Ltd. will support you in achieving your All Wales Induction Framework Values and Principles award and registering with Social Care Wales. 

 

You will then be enrolled onto a professional qualification either QCF level 2, 3, 4 or 5 again to continue your professional development. Upon successful completion of your Level 2 in Health and Social Care your pay will increase, you will then earn £10.00 per hour, so with Thistle Care Ltd. it really does pay to learn.

Progression and Care Worker of the Month

Thistle Care is a firm believer in promoting from within and investing in it`s staff. We have introduced a Care Worker of the Month award, it is awarded to Care Staff in recognition for their outstanding contribution to care in the community, the recipient will receive a certificate and a gift as a thank you for their continued hard work.
